Consumption of culture
"Become a culture that allows us to have a perspective and perspective that enriches culture in a good way."
Last weekend, I didn't have much time so I stayed home doing chores. It was not much. Usually during weekends, I sleep at home or plan to go out. That week I was reading a book leaning on my bed. It was a usual but at the same time unusual routine. I thought about the exhibition I wanted to visit which led to thinking about cultural life. Cultural life which can be reading a book or going to an exhibition is not only beneficial to itself but also brings satisfaction to oneself. However, is that the cultural life I really want? And what is left after that? Cultural life is not about just being satisfied. Didn't one pass by all the abundant visual contents inside?
For instance, when it comes to books, I like reading them but I just get the overall story and after reading every thought just disappears. Of course those time spent for reading is not meaningless. The fact that recognizing there are thoughts that are different from me is meaningful. Also the fact that I have to have an outcome after an activity is a compulsive idea. But the reason I thought about the outcome was that after repetition of activities not much has changed. From that I thought about what could be changed?
In Murakami Haruki's novel "Forest of Norway", the description of the landscape is very impressive. The landscapes just passing by can have emotion and another story. Thus, even with one and the same material, the things that come out through the digestion and the reinterpretation of the person are making the world richer. I hope I can have my own perspective. At the same time, what is the point of view I look at? I think it is a different point of view from others.
Culture is certainly a factor that enriches our lives. However, consumption that simply follows the mass is a re-interpretation of the culture through its consumption. It is not likely to be a part of. Culture is enriched by culture, it is enriched by itself. It would be nice if we could have a perspective and perspective.
