Spatial history and power

The current space project is to remodel the multi-purpose building inside the Jeonju Hanok Village Crafts Hall into a space for citizens. While visiting Jeonju Hanok Village on a business trip, and looking at the hanok being built in Bukchon recently, I came to think about the balance between what we should preserve and improve in our lives.

In the era of smartphones in 2019, it's obviously a burden to live an analogue life all of a sudden. Also, it is difficult to say whether the so-called fusion hanok is right or wrong because the individual lifestyle is different. And so I started thinking about what was the essence of it is. The essence of hanok is not just its appearance, but its culture and way of living. As we spent more time with our neighbors and nature, various games and foods were created. I think the slower but abundant flow of time and a mindset that recognizes the value of the culture and continues to be true.

현재 진행하고 있는 공간 프로젝트는 전주한옥마을 공예관 내부에 있는 다목적관을 시민들의 공간으로 리뉴얼 하는 것입니다. 출장시 전주한옥마을을 방문하며 생각한 것과 최근 북촌에 지어지고 있는 한옥을 보며 우리 삶에서 우리가 보존해야 할것과 개선해야 하는 부분의 균형을 많이 생각해보게 되었습니다.

2019년 스마트폰의 시대에서, 갑자기 아날로그적인 삶을 살아나가는 것은 분명히 부담이 됩니다. 또한 개개인의 생활방식이 다르기 때문에, 이른바 퓨전한옥과 같은 부분도 일방적으로 옳다 그르다를 말하기 어렵습니다. 그러기에 무엇이 본질인지 생각을 해보았습니다. 한옥의 본질은 단순히 겉모양이 아니라, 우리의 문화와 주거방식에 있습니다. 이웃 그리고 자연과 더 많은 시간을 보내면서 다양한 놀이와 먹거리가 만들어졌습니다. 보다 느렸지만 풍성했던 시간의 흐름과 그 문화의 가치를 인지하고 이를 이어가는 마음가짐이 진정한 본질이 아닐까 생각이 됩니다.
