Onggi Teapot set and Cup & Dessert Plate for DDP Collection, Seoul life 2019
Product design
「 Creating a breathing tableware using Onggi material. 」
Onggi is a unique storage container for crops made by mixing clay. It is also known as a pottery that breathes for reasons of its storage, efficiency, and ventilation features. It is made by mixing and grinding the Clay, Goreongto, Jangseok and Gyeseok etc, then filtering them out with water. The products differ according to the component ratio. In result of this process Chungjato, Baikjato, Bunchungto, Onggito and Sanchungto are made. We presented a healthy Seoul life using Baikjato and Onggito. In addition, beauty from material and form makes the users feel happy using them as an everyday item.
Onggi Teapot set
The Teapot set is made of white porcelain. The simple and neat white porcelain material harmonizes with the round kettle form and adds elegance to the product. Form combines curve and mass, a contrasting form to create a balanced and unique shape. The white porcelain was treated with fine and rough texture and the inner surface of the porcelain was coated with shiny glazing.
Onggi Cup & Dessert Plate
Each type is derived from Korean traditional housewares. Details were added to each cup-and-plate by extracting the shape from ‘Horibyung’ (Korean traditional liquor bottle) and ‘Hangari’(Korean traditional jar) and modifying them. Changes were made to the curved shape and the straight form of these objects, but also we kept the uniformity. The cups and dessert plates are paired to keep coherency. These cups and dessert plates combine to add fun and dignity to everyday items. There are two types, ‘Baikjato’(white clay) and ‘Onggito’. When it comes to Onggito, on the inner surface lye was applied to make it waterproof.
